As I mentioned in yesterday's post, the participants in the eclectic\nmusical ensemble<\/a> are all acquaintances of one guy, who thought it'd be\nnice to get them together. Some of them belong to a camera<\/span> club together,\nso advanced amateur photographers were plentiful in attendance, both on\nstage and in the audience.<\/p>\n\n

The central acquaintance, Nishimoto-san, had a Canon<\/span> 85mm f\/1.2, a\nbeautiful,<\/span> robust lens, that we all ogled. Nikon has nothing\ncomparable, though there is a Nikon<\/span> 50mm f\/1.2. Zak used to<\/span> have one, which I've\nborrowed to good effect to get\nartsy-fartsy\nwith the shallow depth of field<\/a>, and with my D700 to explore the\ndepths of low-light photography<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

One of the photographers in attendance was Kyoto friend St\u00e9phane\nBarbery<\/a>, who prefers a small,<\/span> quiet, unobtrusive camera. However, he's\nlooking to branch out and add an advanced SLR for low-light photography, so\nhe took the opportunity to check out the ergonomics and lenses of\nNishimoto-san's Canon 5D, and my Nikon D700...<\/p>\n\n

It was during the pre-concert setup that St\u00e9phane was playing with my\nD700 and 85mm f\/1.4 that Zak noticed the interesting photo opportunity of\nNakamura-san with his Ricoh compact while in full traditional dress,\nholding his priceless shou<\/i> instrument<\/a>, so he quickly borrowed\nthe camera to snap the shot that leads this post.<\/p>\n\n

Later, Nakamura-san explained the benefits of his Ricoh compact to\nSt\u00e9phane, who had a different<\/span> model Ricoh...<\/p>\n\n
