{"id":1267,"date":"2009-07-28T03:43:28","date_gmt":"2009-07-27T18:43:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2009-07-28\/1267"},"modified":"2009-07-28T03:43:28","modified_gmt":"2009-07-27T18:43:28","slug":"more-corrupt-memory-card-woes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2009-07-28\/1267","title":{"rendered":"More Corrupt Memory-Card Woes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<div class='resize_warning' id='arw1267'>\n<b>NOTE<\/b>: Images with an <img class='raw' width='19' height='18' src='\/i\/s\/red_zoomup.gif'\/> icon next to them have been artificially shrunk to better fit your screen; click the icon to restore them, in place, to their regular size.\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>As soon as I switched <a href=\"\/blog\/2008-09-15\/935\"\nclass='quiet'>to <span class='nobr'>a Nikon<\/span> D700<\/a> from <span class='nobr'>a Nikon<\/span> D200, <span class='nobr'>I started<\/span> getting\ncorrupt memory cards. <span class='nobr'>I brought<\/span> the camera to the Nikon Service Center in Osaka,\nbut they said that it's probably the memory card that's the problem. <span class='nobr'>I used only<\/span> <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-01-14\/132\" class='quiet'>Transcend\ncompact flash<\/a> cards, which are not on the official supported list,\nso they suggested that <span class='nobr'>I move<\/span> to an officially-supported card.<\/p>\n\n<p>In those early days, the problem manifested itself with <span class='nobr'>a scrambled<\/span> view\nof the image on the D700's screen, but they downloaded fine and <span class='nobr'>I never<\/span> had\nother problem with the images. <span class='nobr'>In any case<\/span>, they soon went away and for\nmonths <span class='nobr'>I forgot<\/span> about the issue. Then last December <span class='nobr'>I had<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a full<\/span>-card\nmeltdown, and would have lost all the images from the day if it hadn't been\nfor the image-recovery tool <span class='nobr'>I wrote<\/span> about in &#8220;<a class='quiet'\nhref=\"\/blog\/2008-12-03\/1016\">Recovering Photos from <span class='nobr'>a\nCorrupt<\/span> Memory Card with PhotoRec<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p>I wasn't entirely convinced the problem was with the card.... <span class='nobr'>I half suspected<\/span> that it was due to my card reader, but <span class='nobr'>I threw<\/span> the card away and\ngot another. Unfortunately, five months later <span class='nobr'>I ran<\/span> into the problem again,\nfinding upon return from <span class='nobr'>a vacation<\/span> that all the images from our <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2009-07-15\/1256\" class='quiet'>trip to\nIshigaki Island<\/a> were lost to <span class='nobr'>a corrupt<\/span> card. Again, <i>PhotoRec<\/i>\ncame to my rescue, so again, <span class='nobr'>I sent a<\/span> big fat donation of thanks to its\nmaintainer.<\/p>\n\n<p>I still felt that the problem wasn't in the cards, but to be prudent, <span class='nobr'>I switched<\/span> to cards on Nikon's official supported-for-the-D700 list of cards.<\/p>\n\n<p>So yesterday, <span class='nobr'>I arrived<\/span> at my folks in Ohio after <span class='nobr'>a long<\/span> flight from\nJapan, and this morning <span class='nobr'>I took<\/span> some pictures of Anthony playing, and found\nmy Lexar Professional card to be totally corrupt. Sigh. <i>PhotoRec<\/i> is\nrunning right now.<\/p>\n\n<p>The problem could be my card reader (<span class='nobr'>a different<\/span> one than before, <span class='nobr'>I\nthink,<\/span> but I'm not 100% sure... <span class='nobr'>I have several<\/span>), or this and the previous\ntime it could be the airport X-Ray..... or it could be my D700. <span class='nobr'>I dunno.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p>Sigh.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As soon as I switched to a Nikon D700 from a Nikon D200, I started getting corrupt memory cards.
