The last day of Anthony's school before breaking for the summer —\nthe Japanese school year starts in April, so summer break is during the\nmiddle of a grade<\/span> — included a sleepover<\/span> for all the first graders,\nright at the school. I went to<\/span> pick him up at the appointed time on Sunday,\nbut he ended up playing with some friends for a while.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

First we piled the kids into some cars and headed over to a nearby<\/span> river\nplay spot, one that Anthony played at last year<\/a>. This year, though, he wasn't\nreally in the mood to play in the water (which totally shocked me), but he\namused himself taking pictures with the phone he carries during his school\ncommute (as described here<\/a>).....<\/p>\n\n

Eventually he remembered that he had some sandals in his sleepover-school stuff, and decided to wade in a bit.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Of course, he ended up getting all wet.<\/p>\n\n

Eventually we ended up heading to Mizuki-chan's<\/a> house, along with Akiko-chan<\/a>\nand Kana-chan<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

(They were playing on a dead-end street with no traffic, but still, I wish they<\/span> would have had a helmet.<\/span>)<\/p>\n\n

I stepped away for a bit to take some picture of a nearby<\/span> rice field,\nand came back to witness the end of Kana-chan's first ever bike ride...<\/p>\n\n

As I clarified that she'd never ridden a “big” bike without training wheels,\nAnthony was more than happy to claim credit for just having taught her to\nride. She gleefully<\/span> then proceeded to do it again... (I guess<\/span> once you learn,\nafter that, it's like riding a bike<\/span>)...<\/p>\n\n
