\n\nWe've been wondering when it would start, and like a switch<\/span><\/i> it\nstarted last week. One day Anthony<\/span> just started asking “why” at any and\nevery chance.\n\n<\/p> \n\nHere's a representative conversation:\n\n<\/p>\n\n \n\nWe're thrilled that he's curious and we try to answer as best we can, but\nindeed it does get on one's nerves during our weaker moments. I've found\nthat I occasionally<\/span> resort to the “because I said<\/span> so” answer (soon, I'm\nsure, to be shortened to just “because”) when he asks “Why?” to a command.<\/span> It's one thing<\/span> to answer a question,<\/span> but I don't<\/span> want to get into the habit\nof justifying parental orders to his satisfaction. (I'm probably being too\nuptight about it... we'll see).\n\n<\/p> \n\nIn any case, he generally actually listens to the answers (he can later\nrecall them), so it's wonderful that the sponge is actively trying to fill\nitself up. I hope he<\/span> never loses the desire to understand. I certainly<\/span> haven't yet.\n\n<\/p> \n\nInterestingly, I don't think I've yet heard this “why” phase\nyet in Japanese.
