(We <a href=\"\/blog\/2008-04-17\/794\"\nclass='quiet'>renewed his American passport<\/a> last year, so that was fine.)<\/p>\n\n<p>While we were at it, we got a passport for Curious George as well.\nTraditionally, plush toy monkeys have been permitted to cross international\nboarders without <span class='nobr'>a passport,<\/span> but post 9\/11, one can never be too careful,\nespecially the <a href=\"\/blog\/2005-06-03\/35\"\nclass='quiet'>troubles we've had in the past<\/a>. So, exercising the\noft-cited &#8220;abundance of caution&#8221;, we went ahead with all the paperwork to\nset up George with proper documentation.<\/p>\n\n<p>George couldn't sign his name, so Anthony had to do it. Oddly, the\nJapanese passport office gave George <span class='nobr'>a 10<\/span>-year passport, but Anthony only\ngot the expected <span class='nobr'>a five<\/span>-year child passport. Maybe plush toys age\ndifferently.<\/p>\n\n<p>I also notice that French has been dropped from passports. When <span class='nobr'>I was<\/span>\nyounger, passports always had French in them.
