To say that neither Fumie nor I have<\/span> a green<\/span> thumb would be a mild<\/span>\nunderstatement, to say the least. (Fumie and Anthony were able to\ngrow some tomatoes<\/a> last year,\nthough they didn't taste good.)<\/p>\n\n

Fumie's mom is much better at tending greenery, which is wonderful\nbecause as part of the monthly Shimajiro series of activities she's\nsubscribed to on Anthony's behalf for years (previously mentioned here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>), came a little<\/span> setup\nfor growing a sunflower.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

It has the little pot, a watering pitcher, and a stages<\/span>-of-growth chart\nwith a little<\/span> marker that the kid moves as the plant progresses from stage\nto stage. When the first yellow pedals started to appear, she sent the pot\nover to us so that Anthony could see it more often. (Since he's in school, he\nusually can visit his grandparents only on the weekends.)<\/p>\n\n

I know from growing up in Ohio that these can grow five or six feet\ntall, which that little pot won't support, so I'm not sure what we'll do\nwhen it reaches that stage. (It seems they've left “pot tips over” off the\nstages-of-growth cart.)<\/p>\n\n
