This post follows from Secluded Beach on Ishigaki Island, Part I<\/a>, about our trip\nto the beach on our second day of a short trip to\nIshigaki Island<\/a> in the far south of Japan. Part I included<\/span> this picture\nlooking north from our spot on the beach....<\/p>\n\n

We saw only a few people the whole time we were there, including one guy\nwho walked up the beach toward the outcropping seen above, and just\ndisappeared. I wondered<\/span> what was over there, so I took<\/span> a stroll.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

When we'd first arrived, I'd seen someone<\/span> way down the beach playing\nwith some dogs. The someone<\/span> had long gone, but it turns out that the dogs\nwere still there...<\/p>\n\n

I don't know what the thing in the cave is, but it looked to be poured\nconcrete, and vaguely in the shape of Okinawan grave markers (like\nthis<\/a>). Not very high<\/span> status, but a nice<\/span> location, I guess.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

A bit further, and you ran out of land....<\/p>\n\n

I continued walking in the shallow ocean along the coast, now out of\nsight from our spot on the beach where I'd left Fumie and Anthony. The coast<\/span> here was dotted with little short stretches of isolated beach, and in\none such area I found<\/span> three guys having a little<\/span> barbecue. Looking back after\nI'd passed them....<\/p>\n\n

The one above seemed to have a cave, which I found<\/span> too hard to pass up,\nso I headed<\/span> landward and pushed inland, following in the footsteps (so to\nspeak) of Cook, Drake, Columbus, Cartier, and other famous explorers...<\/p>\n\n
