While putting Anthony down to bed last night, he claimed (incorrectly)\nthat he wasn't tired, and so going to bed would be “boring”. We'd been in<\/span> a\nlarge<\/span> five-story toy store recently, so I suggested<\/span> that he pass the time\nby imagining that he lived in the toy store...<\/p>\n\n\n
Me:<\/b><\/td> What would you play with?<\/td><\/tr>\n
Anthony:      <\/b><\/td>Everything!<\/td><\/tr>\n
Me:<\/b><\/td> Well, you've got to start somewhere.<\/td><\/tr>\n
Anthony:<\/b><\/td>I wish<\/span> I could<\/span> really<\/i> live there.<\/td><\/tr>\n
Me:<\/b><\/td> Well, you can, when you get older. You can buy<\/span> a toy<\/span> store and live there.<\/td><\/tr>\n
Anthony:<\/b><\/td>Really?<\/td><\/tr>\n
Me:<\/b><\/td> Sure, you just have to save a lot<\/span> of money to do it. By the time<\/span> you get old enough, you'll be able to do that.<\/td><\/tr>\n
Anthony:<\/b><\/td>(thinking....)<\/i>But then I wouldn't be a kid anymore!<\/td><\/tr>\n<\/table>\n\n

It took me a moment to realize what his complaint was. He was worried<\/span>\nthat by the time he was old enough to actually be able to make his dream of\nliving in a toy<\/span> store come true, he would be too old to enjoy it.<\/p>\n\n

Wise beyond his years.<\/p>\n\n

I explained that it's possible to keep a kid's<\/span> spirit alive in your\nheart as you grow into an adult. He liked<\/span> that idea.<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
