It's been several days since we got back from\nIshigaki Island, in the far south of Japan<\/a>, but I've still not had a\nchance<\/span> to even look at most of my photos. Just. Too. Busy. But here are<\/span> a\nfew<\/span> to illustrate the trip down...<\/p>\n\n

The Okinawa mainland is an island about 80 miles long, but Okinawa is\nactually a string<\/span> of what must be thousands of islands that stretches in an\narc for about 450 miles. In the photo<\/span> above, we're about 40 miles north of\nthe main airport, which is at the extreme southern end of the island. The red circle<\/span> marks the Atta Terrace hotel<\/a> where we stayed for a few<\/span> days in\nJanuary (posts about which are in my\nblog's Okinawa category<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n

Just before landing in Naha for our transfer to a second<\/span> flight, I spied<\/span> a small<\/span> island about 1km off the mainland coast...<\/p>\n\n

The beach area is about 150 yards across, and face the Okinawaian\nmainland a kilometer<\/span> away. The white<\/span> speck toward the lower left is a small<\/span>\nboat with one person.<\/p>\n\n

Our destination island, Ishigaki Island<\/a>, is quite\na bit<\/span> larger, and quiet a bit<\/span> further south. After switching to a smaller<\/span>\nplane and a 45<\/span>-minute flight further south-west, we ended up at Ishigaki\nIsland, over 1,000 miles from home and just 140 miles shy of Taiwan....<\/p>\n\n

We stayed at the Fusaki\nResort Village<\/a> which has a bunch<\/span> of small private cottages, and some\nsmaller, less-expensive duplex-style rooms<\/a> (we stayed in the latter).<\/p>\n\n

A hotel might use the word “resort<\/i>” for any number of different\nreasons:<\/p>\n\n
