Today was a really lovely day... warmer and less crowded than yesterday.\nSo, of course, I stayed<\/span> in all day working on my Lightroom\nplugins<\/a>. But I did<\/span> take some pictures during the day yesterday, in\naddition to the cherry blossoms at dusk<\/a> that I've already posted, so I'll\nshare some in this post.<\/p>\n\n

Most regular cherry trees in this area are at 50%-70% full bloom, but\nthe trees right outside my window are closer to 100%, so they made for a\nnice<\/span> view, and attracted the weekend crowds. Most everyone had a camera.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The picture above includes almost all the elements that make\nJapan Japan<\/i>. \n\nThere are the camera-toting tourists, of course, and the cherry blossoms,\nand the bicycle. And the utility<\/span> pole placed for\nmaximum ugliness. And a bit<\/span> of a pink<\/span> kimono in\nthe background. And even some<\/span> left-over\nmomiji<\/i> (fall foliage) in the foreground. The only\nthings<\/span> missing are someone smoking, and some rice.<\/p>\n\n

(The blur in the lower right is Anthony's head, and not among the\nquintessentially Japanese features of the photo.)<\/p>\n\n

Anthony's head was in the window because we were looking out for Gen<\/a> and his\nfamily, who were on their way for a visit.<\/span>..<\/p>\n\n

Zak normally doesn't lower himself to come to the slums of Kyoto from\nhis penthouse suite in Otsu, but he needed to return a tripod<\/span> he had\nborrowed from me, and thought to bring his family to check out Kyoto's\npathetic excuse for cherry blossoms. (His blog<\/a> is filled\nwith all the Otsu cherry-blossom photos he takes that are better than\nmy Kyoto cherry-blossom photos.)<\/p>\n\n

After dropping off the tripod, we all headed out to the park so the kids\ncould play. On the way<\/span>, I snapped<\/span> a picture<\/span> of the blossoms I'd been seeing\nfrom the house...<\/p>\n\n
