{"id":1100,"date":"2009-01-08T22:44:38","date_gmt":"2009-01-08T13:44:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2009-01-08\/1100"},"modified":"2009-01-08T22:44:38","modified_gmt":"2009-01-08T13:44:38","slug":"thanks-sony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2009-01-08\/1100","title":{"rendered":"Thanks, Sony"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<div class='resize_warning' id='arw1100'>\n<b>NOTE<\/b>: Images with an <img class='raw' width='19' height='18' src='\/i\/s\/red_zoomup.gif'\/> icon next to them have been artificially shrunk to better fit your screen; click the icon to restore them, in place, to their regular size.\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Sadly, <a href=\"http:\/\/tivo.com\">TiVo<\/a> and its ultra-intuitive user\ninterface is not available in Japan, but there are plenty of similar\ndevices, called &#8220;DVR&#8221; here (Digital Video Recorder). <span class='nobr'>We have a<\/span> <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.i4u.com\/article11427.html\">Sony BDZ-X90<\/a> unit that we\nbought <span class='nobr'>a year<\/span> or so ago. <span class='nobr'>Its list of<\/span> features and functions is huge,\nexceeded only by its ridiculously high pricetag.<\/p>\n\n<p>Anyway, it worked just fine until five days after the warranty expired,\nwhen suddenly only the display worked (and only to show &#8220;System Error&#8221;). <span class='nobr'>A call to<\/span> Sony confirmed that it would have to be sent in for service, so <span class='nobr'>I\ndropped<\/span> it off at <span class='nobr'>a place<\/span> nearby that handles Sony repairs, and asked them\nto ask Sony to fix it for free, since it's <i>just<\/i> out of warranty.<\/p>\n\n<p>Of course, <span class='nobr'>I understood<\/span> that Sony didn't have to do that (it was just\n<i>out<\/i> of warranty), but it didn't hurt to ask.<\/p>\n\n<p>We got it back today. <span class='nobr'>It turns<\/span> out that the hard disk had crashed, so it\nwas replaced. <span class='nobr'>The bill came<\/span> to &yen;0, so <b>thanks Sony<\/b>.<\/p>\n\n<p>I'd prefer that things don't break, but being generous like that on the\nwarranty, after the fact when you didn't have to, is classy (and good\nbusiness; there's <span class='nobr'>a reason<\/span> we have so much Sony stuff).<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sadly, TiVo and its ultra-intuitive user interface is not available in Japan, but there are plenty of similar devices, called \"DVR\" here (Digital Video Recorder).
