Okay, so yesterday's post about Japan's Cherry-Blossom Season Off to\nan Early Start<\/a> was somewhat misleading. I normally<\/span> write about things\nin Kyoto where I live,<\/span> but Fumie and I took<\/span> a short<\/span> trip (just two nights)\nto Okinawa, a string<\/span> of Japanese islands in the East China Sea, well\nbeyond Amami<\/a> (which\nwe've visited twice, and I've blogged\nabout<\/a> many times), about half way between the Japanese mainland and\nTaiwan.<\/p>\n\n

We returned yesterday, and I posted some cherry-blossoms that we\ndiscovered while exploring Okinawa. To be fair<\/span>, though, I have to<\/span> note that\nthe locals told us they expected cherry blossoms toward the end of January,\nand were surprised when we mentioned that we'd already seen some, so “early\nstart” is technically true :-).<\/p>\n\n

Our trip was only two and a half days, but I came<\/span> back with 1,000\nphotos, all of which I intend<\/span> to eventually force upon you :-).<\/p>\n\n

Here's one, of a small island 100 meters off the coast of Oujima<\/i>,\nitself a tiny<\/span> shopping-mall sized island just off the coast of the\nOkinawa mainland.
