Japan's cherry-blossom season has arrived a bit<\/span> early this year. During\na drive<\/span> in the mountains yesterday, we came across some cherry blossoms\nthat were just<\/i> starting to bloom.<\/p>\n\n

There weren't many blooms yet, but already lots of buds....<\/p>\n\n

I normally don't post new cherry-blossom pictures until mid-to-late March (last year's\n“It Has Begun: Cherry Blossoms in Kyoto<\/a>” went up on March 25th),\nalthough new plum<\/i> blossoms do come a month<\/span> earlier, with\n2007's first plum-blossom post<\/a> arriving in mid February, and\nlast year's “Plum Blossoms at the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine<\/a>”\njust catching the tail end of the plum-blossom on March 24th.<\/p>\n\n

In yesterday's drive, we came across several different types of cherry blossoms. I think<\/span> the ones above are known as\nkan'hizakura<\/i>, while another kind we came across are quite a bit<\/span> more..... rumply.... than I've ever seen...<\/p>\n\n

These rumply sakura were either somewhat deep pink, or almost pure\nwhite, but not much in between. The two colors<\/span> could co-exist on the same\nbranch.<\/p>\n\n
