Continuing along the lines of my previous two posts (on garments with silly\nEnglish<\/a>, and a confusing\ntraffic sign<\/a>), this is a picture<\/span> I snapped<\/span> last year at Osaka Castle Park<\/a> when\nI was<\/span> visiting with friends (and doing impromptu portraits<\/a>\nand dodging paper\nairplanes<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n

It is, of course, the plainly-visible urinals on the men's half of an\noutside public bathroom near the castle.<\/p>\n\n\n

I titled the image “uncharacteristic” not because of the visibility\n– most outside public bathrooms are more or less like this –\nbut because this particular bathroom is much more clean and well lit than\nyou're almost ever likely to find.<\/p>\n\n

Alice Gordenker at the Japan Times (a national<\/span> English-language daily)\ndelved into this somewhat unnerving subject in her always-entertaining “What\nthe Heck is That?<\/a><\/i>” column a couple<\/span> of years ago:<\/p>\n\n
