Dipping into the archives, here are some photos from almost exactly two\nyears ago, near where the city butts up against Mt. Daimonji, where\ndeveloped land ends and one of the paths up to Daimonji<\/a> starts.<\/p>\n\n

Still in the city part, at this time of year you get some nice colors...<\/p>\n\n

The distinctively-maintained shrubs in front of the house appeared on my\nblog once before, here<\/a>, and some of\nthe photos on this Kyoto\nFall-Color Preview<\/a> from last year were taken in this immediate\nvicinity, as were some on this different Kyoto Fall-Color\nPreview<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Continuing on toward the mountain, once the houses stop, it's an odd\narea for a while<\/span> that feels a bit<\/span> “no man's land”, before becoming a normal<\/span>\nmountain hiking path. Here's what you see upon leaving the “city”\npart...<\/p>\n\n

The literal translation of the sign is “Let's all cease (being) women\nwalking alone.” This “Let's all cease...” construction is quite common,\nsuch as “Let's all cease littering”, and often amuses me. It (the literal\ntranslation) is particularly amusing for me here because it's quite\ninclusive in a way<\/span> biology does not allow for. Of course, the\nproblem\/amusement here is the translation, not the Japanese itself.\nEnglish, too, has all kinds of idioms that are pretty silly when\ndissected.<\/p>\n\n

The immediate area after the city ends has a small<\/span> temple of some sort,\nand a few<\/span> other random buildings, all in various states of ill\nrepair....<\/p>\n\n

Somewhere along the line, you see this quaint hand-painted sign...<\/p>\n\n

If you take the path that dives into the mountain, it'll bring you to the top of Mt. Daimonji,\nfrom which you can then take a path<\/span> back down a bit<\/span> to the Daimonij Fire Pits<\/a>. The fire pids<\/span> are just 400 meters from here, but that's as the crow flys. Hiking, it'll take about an hour.<\/p>\n\n

I was on my scooter On this particular outing, just checking out the\nfall colors. Turning around and returning, once leaving the treecover\nyou're greeted with a nice<\/span> view of the city, and that pretty house...<\/p>\n\n
