Well, after the once-in-a-lifetime Sunset<\/a>\nlast week, I've been hoping to cheat death and see a second<\/span> one, and to do\nso from a better<\/span> vantage point. I've taken to sprinting up to the Shogunzuka overlook<\/a>\nif a nice<\/span> sunset looks to be brewing. I've done it three times now, the\nfirst having been the day\nafter<\/a>, and the most recent today.<\/p>\n\n

I arrived just in time to watch a fiery<\/span> orange\/red – seen above\n– disappear from over the mountains to the west.<\/p>\n\n

Of course, as I've been complaining a lot<\/span> about of late, the image\ndoesn't really capture what one saw. In this case<\/span>, it's such a strong<\/span> zoom\nthat it makes it feel like the whole sky was on fire like the other\nday<\/a>, but it wasn't. It was still<\/span> pretty, but my camera or (more likely)\nmy skill just aren't up to the task of capturing that wide a range<\/span> of\nbrightnesses, from the brilliant brightness of the edge of the clouds to\nthe relatively dim mountain facing me. I<\/i> could see the mountains\njust fine while taking the pictures, but my camera couldn't.<\/p>\n\n

Anyway, the red-orange of my sunset was gone in a minute,<\/span> but looking\nsouth-west toward Osaka 30<\/span> miles away, in the far distance past Osaka, I could<\/span> see mildly orange clouds with exquisite detail. They must have been\nabsolutely huge to be as big as they were from my vantage point, and would\nhave certainly made for a great<\/span> sunset to be under them.<\/p>\n\n

Back to the first picture above, let me show four other pictures taken\nat pretty much the same time. This time, I put the<\/span> camera into bracketing\nmode, so that it'd take not only the shot that it thought was properly\nexposed, but two shots at varying underexposure, and two shots at varying\noverexposure. When taken with the camera in “burst mode”, the five-shot\nsequence takes about one second to complete. Here they are.... mouseover\nthe buttons below to see the various shots.<\/p>\n\n\n
