Hi Jeff,
I'm running ancient hardware (G5 Power PC) and software (LR 1.3). Is there an archived version of your plug-in that will work for me. I'm uploading hundreds of photos daily.

Thanks a mill.

Mark B.

I don't think Lr1.3 accepted plugins... that started in Lr1.4 if I recall. If you can bump up to at least that, this copy of the plugin should work, but you may well find it easier to engrave the pixels in stone and ship them by truck. Or upgrade your hardware/software. :-) —Jeffrey

I have smugmug-20120114.216. I changed my password in smugmug. Where do I change my password in the plugin?

You mention: "at the top of the Export Dialog". But where is it? I can't see it, obviously I'm look at the wrong place. I don't see it, even in

Lightroom Publishing Manager > Your smugmug account (I don't see it there)

Thanks

Make sure to look at the top of the Export dialog, and not the Publishing Manager or Plugin Manager. It really should be in the publishing manager when this comes up for Publish, but there are technical limitations that make it a challenge. —Jeffrey

Hello Jeffrey,

the last smugmug-20111224.214 plugin does not upload video from my latest Lightroom 3.6 x64... The Lightroom will eat 2.5gb of memory, consume 1 CPU power and freeze (I waited for 12 hours - 100mb video file)... I am able to upload the same video using Smugmug html5 uploader without any issue. Any idea what can be wrong?

Boris

The infrastructure Lightroom offers for uploading doesn't really scale well (it was designed for photo uploads, and was not upgraded when video support was added). There's not much I can do at this point but wait and hope for better support in the future. )-: —Jeffrey

Ah ha. Wasn't sure if yours existed before LR implemented - or if they just added your plugin to the LR core.

I'm assuming this "mine has extra stuff" answer applies to all the exports (e.g. Flickr, Facebook, etc.).

How is this different than the SmugMug (and Flickr and Facebook) exports built-into LR3? I saw mention of your "save export" functionality being built-into all your plugins now - not sure how that's different.

I'm not sure what you mean by "save export", but both plugins are free... give them a try. Mine have a lot more features (and support normal export), but are more complex. —Jeffrey

Jeffrey, that helps some, but SmugMug does have a "Smart Gallery" option that is established by rules as well (see http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93308).

I think the difference between the Lightroom/Plug-In Smart Gallery and the SmugMug Smart Gallery is that the SmugMug version is a "virtual" gallery in that the images displayed in the SmugMug "Smart Gallery" still physically belong to the original gallery that they were located.

In the "Smart Gallery" for Lightroom (and the plug-in), it appears that copies of the originally published images ARE placed in the Smart Gallery when published. In effect there is a copy created of the original, and then placed in the "Smart Folder". This seems to be unlike the SmugMug version. I'm just looking for a verification of this difference.

Yes, Lightroom doesn't know anything about SM smart galleries, so if you publish *into* a SM smart gallery, I'm sure it'll be publishing a new copy of the image. —Jeffrey

Jeffrey,

Trying to understand how the plugin handles Smart Galleries (I'm new to Smart Galleries). If I create a Smart Gallery within your Plugin, and then setup my rules, it appears that any photograph impacted by that rule is actually imported into that Smart Gallery, (rather than just being associated to that/those photographs). Is this correct?

Also, if I create a Smart Gallery within your plugin, inside Lightroom and then look at it's settings within the SmugMug admin tools, it doesn't show up as a "Smart Gallery" (it still shows the message "Make This Gallery Smart" within SmugMug). Is this a bug?

If SmugMug has anything called "Smart Galleries", they're unrelated to "Smart Galleries" in Lightroom and the plugin. In Lightroom (and hence the plugin), a smart gallery is one whose image membership is by rule, that's all. —Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey, I am interested in purchasing your plugin but I had a couple questions.
1) I currently use the lightroom smugmug plugin and I have over 200 smart galleries that I created that that look at the specific folders in my hard drive library and recognize if there are changes. Can I switch to your plugin and still use those same folders. I really dont want to redo all that work of organizing.
2) if a user goes to my smugmug gallery and edits a caption or keyword, will that download back to my library so I can update my original files to preserve that data.
3) can I upload video from your plugin and will it write metadata to those files so I can see captions and keywords of video on smugmug
thanks again

The plugin is free; you can't purchase it. There's no automatic way to replicate your smart collections, sorry. Also, the plugin does not read back changed keywords/captions from SmugMug. Video should upload with captions and keywords, though it's been a year since I tested it, but since the plugin is free, you can give it a quick try to see how it goes. —Jeffrey

Chip,

Installing your Lightroom plugins in a folder not dependent on the program path will avoid this problem. For example, C:\Lightroom Plugins\smugmug-jfriedl.lrplugin. I have never had a problem with any of the LR updates despite the unusual way Adobe does them which does require shortcuts to start LR to be replaced.
Thanks, Jeffrey, for a great plugin.
