Known Issues with my Plugins

Known Issues with Lightroom and/or my plugins...

All plugins (Mar 2022)

Suddenly, some plugins sometimes start to hang after processing one image. This affects only Lr11.2. The workaround is to view a different collection (even momentarily), and things become unstuck. Versions of my plugins released on 2022-03-09 or later have that workaround built in (if the plugin notices that things are stuck, it will switch to the Quick Collection for 0.1 seconds, then back to whatever collection had been stuck).

Also, please see This FAQ for issues commonly encountered with my plugins.

Hi, Jeffrey. I’m in Washington state, USA. I was wondering if the Flickr recent change to the Amazon Web Server platform will cause issues with the Lightroom jfFlickr plug-in. The Flickr site is back up this evening (May 23, 2019) after an outage to move the web site to Amazon beginning May 22, 2019. Presently, when I publish photos in Lightroom using jfFlickr, the action times out showing “Error during export Flickr’s server returned a web page instead of valid data, so they’re likely having temporary technical difficulty. Aborting export before any image was successfully uploaded.” I guess this is kind of a heads up for you if there is something that needs to be done on your end with the plugin. It may be that Flickr is wonky at the moment after the site move.

As best as I can tell, they seem to still have intermittent issues. —Jeffrey

Hi, Jeffrey. Yesterday I sent a message concerning your Lightroom Flickr plugin and the possibility there may be issues with Flickr moving it’s site from Yahoo to AWS. Well, it appears there isn’t an issue that I can see. I was just able to finally upload from jf Flickr to Flickr. That’s amazing considering all the things that could go wrong. Thanks for such a wonderful product. jf Flickr is my main connection to Flickr.

Lots of folks have been having issues (including me, still). It seems to be a bumpy road for them… —Jeffrey

I’ve been having lots of hiccups uploading recently, most of which I suspect are related to Flickr’s Yahoo-SmugMug/AWS migration. No troubles this morning, but one thing that’s been a problem for me for some time is that I can’t seem to *not* download comments. I have the plugin set to “manually” which as I understand it should bypass comment download. But when I publish, I get “Downloading comments” for a long time. (I just refreshed my Flickr album list, which may or may not have helped.)

I’m writing from the San Francisco Bay Area. Thank you for all your work on this plugin, which I find indispensable.

Lightroom doesn’t actually allow for comment-downloading to be disabled, so the disable feature of the plugin fakes out Lightroom by not actually contacting Flickr….. but Lightroom still goes through all the housekeeping efforts, because Lightroom doesn’t know about the fake out. It does this for every photo with every publish. That can be a lot of housekeeping efforts that Lightroom is wasting, but there’s no getting around it, as things stand now. —Jeffrey

I am a very long time user of zenfolio and your plug in. It is running horribly slow on my system. I actually dread using it. It takes minutes to make every single change. So when I am creating client galleries I might work on it for an hr or more now. Is this the plug in? Is it Zenfolio? It is killing me. I am not even talking about uploading. I am talking about creating a gallery or just logging in. I really would like to know if there is something that can be done. Is it that I have 100s of galleries on my site? Uploading has been fine. It is slow, but it does work. The gallery creation and just responsiveness of plug in itself is where I am having issues.

100s of galleries shouldn’t be so slow, but 1000s could be. When you create a gallery, the plugin has to get the full list from Zenfolio, which can take quite a while for many many galleries. In your case, if you need to make a bunch of galleries, it’ll be more efficient to make them all from within the Zenfolio site, then return to the plugin and [refresh list] the list of galleries. That way the plugin has to download the list just once, and not with each gallery creation. —Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey!
I was one of the old LR 6 holdouts until just the other day, and have been happily using your Zenfolio plugin (mostly) without issue for years. Thank You for an excellent product that has integrated so well for so long and made my workflow so much easier.

Upon upgrading to LightRoom Classic 8.4.0 and installing the latest plugin (20190810.321) , I am noticing two things: 1) slower upload speeds than with the previous version, and 2) the EXPORT dialogue window takes about 23 seconds to appear after pressing the EXPORT button when jf zenfolio is the active dropdown selected. When hard drive or email is selected, the export window appears immediately. This is on a Win 10 machine . Thanks for looking into this.

About upload speeds, the plugin has no influence on that… it shoves the data to Lightroom as fast as possible, and after that many things can influence how quickly it gets to the destination (Lightroom, your OS, your router, your ISP, ISPs between, Zenfolio, phase of moon, etc.). About the long delay for the export window, that’s unexpected. Could you open the export window, then close it as soon as it finally shows up, then send a plugin log, and I’ll see what I can figure out. —Jeffrey

Hi

I added the Google Photo plugin and whilst it shows up as enabled in the Plugin Manager UI, but when I try to add a new Publish Service, it does not show up as an option – I have my JFolder option (paid for) but not the JF Google one. Have not registered yet as wanted to try it first.

thanks

The Google-Photo plugin does not support Publish… it’s Export only (File > Export..). Google barely allows any interaction with their service… no updates, no deletes, so it’s not appropriate for a Publish service. —Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey,

Been happily using your “Export to Google Drive” with LR6 with no problems. However, upon exporting now, I am getting duplicate files of each photo in Google Drive. Wondering if this is a bug or, more likely, am I configuring the export incorrectly? Thanks for any help.

When you say “Export”, do you really mean “Publish”? With Publish, prior copies should be replaced. With export (“File > Export”), new copies are pushed out without regard to whatever might have happened in the past. If you’re using Publish and it doesn’t seem to be working, please send a plugin log after encountering the problem, being sure to report the full filename of the prior copy and the new copy. —Jeffrey

Hi Jeffry,
I’ve been a long time user of your Flickr upload and Data Explorer plug-ins – Adobe has just come out with LR9 (Nov 4th 2019). This means I will have to resubscribe to your plugins but are there any changes to accommodate LR9 or do I just have to resubscribe to the plugins for them to load and work again?
Kind regards
Roger

Plugins updated within the last month or so should work fine on Lr9. The plugin will tell you if it doesn’t. —Jeffrey

Hi – thank you for developing this plug in to enable export from Lightroom to Zenfolio. I just updated to LR 9.0 and the latest plug in is not compatible. Is there an updated version of the plugin to work with LR 9.0?

Kind regards,
Megan

Dallas, TX USA

The most recent version did work with Lr9, but juuuuust in case I pushed out another version with all current updates. Still, perhaps delete the copies of the plugin you have on your system so that you’re sure to be using the new one that you then download….—Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrrey.

I’ve just updated Lightroom Classic and it tells me that the Google Export Plug in is not compatible with this version. Any idea if there is an update coming? I miss it already 😉

Thanks

Thanks for your response, but as I said, I did that. I read the FAQ and it did not help. This problem happens on multiple computers. I guess I will just give up. It was great when it worked.

I’m not getting any other reports like this…. I’m sure that the zip on my server is fine. Please try downloading with a different browser, or unzipping with a different tool…. —Jeffrey

Lately when the Flickr plugin tells me there some images have been updated and need to be replaced, it uploads duplicate copies rather than replacing the originals.

This is a new behavior I haven’t seen before, and may be a feature of LR 9.2.

I didn’t notice it at first. I found duplicates and thought I had inadvertently uploaded them twice. But today it uploaded duplicates intermingled with the new images. I caught it in the act.

Like I said, this may be related to a recent update to Lightroom, because I haven’t seen this before in the 8 or so years I’ve been using the plugin.

Next time you catch it in the act, please send a plugin log, being sure to note the full URL of the original image, and of the duplicate. Thanks! —Jeffrey

I am using LR 9.2 on a mid 2014 MacBookPro with OS 10.14.3. Unlike the lame Adobe Flickr plug-in, Yours has worked great, until now. I had to delete from Flickr an album, including about 90 pictures and 10 brief MOV videos, which I had previously published. But when I try to re-publish it, the following dialog pops up:
“Can’t continue: a previously-uploaded video is included in the Publish operation, but Flickr does not allow videos to be replaced. You might delete it from the publish service, then re-add and republish, or just bypass the operation by right-clicking on its thumbnail and “Mark as Up-to-Date”

I tried deleting all movies of that date from Flicker, including the photo stream. But it still gives the same dialog. When I right click on one of the movies in LR, it does not give the option of “Mark as Up-to-Date” PLEASE HELP.

Now there is a new behavior in the Flickr plugin. All photos added since March 1, 2020 do not sync with Lightroom. When the plugin enters ‘Downloading Comments’ mode, it appears to be doing nothing at all for a long time. Eventually it stops and diplays a message on each of the (post March 1) photos saying: “Photo no longer seems to be at Flickr.”

Somewhere along the way, although the upload connection is still good, the plugin has lost the ability to download likes and comments.

(Actually, while I was writing this, I was having the plugin try to download comments. According to the plugin now, almost all my photos say ‘Photo no longer seems to be at Flickr.”)

I will try to get a plugin log and send it to you.

I’m not able to reproduce this problem. I’ll check out the log when you send it…. —Jeffrey

BTW: The images in Lightroom are still connected with their counterparts on Flickr. When I select ‘Visit Photo at Flickr’ it opens the image at Flickr as it always has.

Hello Jeffrey, thanks again for your great work on these plugins!

I found a potential bug in the Google Photos export plugin. When a video is exported, the creation date of the video is modified to the current date. This happens when I choose Video Format “H.264” and when I choose “Original, unedited file”.

Hard for me to know if this is an issue with the plugin or with Google Photos. Please let me know.

Thanks,
David

It’s an issue with Google Photos; they provide no way for the date to be transmitted, so they just read it (or in this case, ignore it) from the video file. —Jeffrey

New problem! Plugin has worked fine in the past but today I get message:

“System returned “securityError” when Lightroom attempted to use the Internet: The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be “api.zenfolio.com” which could put your confidential information at risk.”

I cannot create new gallery, nor can I refresh. Just updated to latest version, same problem.

Ideas?

Thanks!

Howard

That’s the message one would get if Zenfolio’s SSH certificate had expired, but it doesn’t expire until 2021, so I can only guess some kind of glitch on your system? Just grasping at straws here…. perhaps try a reboot? —Jeffrey

Is there anyway to add HEIC upload support for the Google Photos Plugin? It seems that it is now a supported file format to upload.

No, sorry, Lightroom can read HEIC files, but can’t write them. —Jeffrey

Hi, I’m having issues with the Zenfolio uploads. I’ve used your plugin for years and never seen this happen. I get error msgs such as this: attempt #1 error “timedOut”, retrying now. And: ERROR Create new gallery at Zenfolio aborted: Networking error when attempting http://api.zenfolio.com/api/1.8/zfapi.asmx: The request timed out. Zenfolio support always directs back to the plugin being used.

Zenfolio is in the midst of changing their backend service provider, and so perhaps there are some bumps in the road. I’ve just released a new version of the plugin that may be more robust with their new system, so please give it a try. —Jeffrey

Hey Jeffrey, longtime user of the Zenfolio export plugin (MacOS Catalina at the moment, Lightroom Classic CC). Lately, when I try to export, I get an error telling me the credentials for Zenfolio are wrong. I have to logout in the export window, and then log back in to get it to work. Any idea why this might be happening, and how I can fix it? Writing to you from NYC.

Are you using the latest version of the plugin? If so, please send a log after encountering the problem. —Jeffrey

Hi,

I’m using L10 and jf Flickr 20210415.420

I’m in a Smart Collection mirroring my Album. Some of the images weren’t recognised during the “Launch Deep Scan” and “Claim for This Photostream” workflow, and after running “Publish” process on this Smart Collection, I ended up with a couple images in Flickr matching each of these originally unrecognised Flickr images. The new one is now linked to the Flickr image. The old one however holds all the views, likes and comments.

I wanted to fix this situation (it’s only minority of images) by using the Flickr Extras interface as discussed here for a slightly different scenario: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/flickr/publish#comment-55218

I select the photo, open this dialogue, “Clear” the existing association, “Associate Images Manually” with “https://www.flickr.com/photos/jrslv/47412026371/” (the old one was https://www.flickr.com/photos/jrslv/51279301141/), “Commit” the change, click “Dismiss Dialogue”. The photo is not marked for re-publishing. So I make an edit, like a crop adjustment, then Publish this photo. And it updates the old one (51279301141). I tried a few times with the same result. Also I noticed that the URL gets restored to 51279301141, I have to repeat the whole proces to replicate this. And also if I click “Visit Photo at Flickr” after changing the URL manually and BEFORE publishing any change, it opens the old URL (I would assume it already uses the new URL).

I’m on Mac. Please e-mail me any questions regarding this bugreport you might have.

All the best, this is really awesome tool! Greetings from the Netherlands.

Jaroslav

It’s a complex situation because each publish service has its own association, independent of the catalog at large. What I think would have to happen is for items that didn’t cat matched via the initial “Claim…”, you’d have to do the manual association and then another “Claim…”, all before ever publishing the photos. Once you publish, that specific publish collection holds the association and it’s locked for good. So perhaps remove the publish collection and re-add it, then do the “Claim…” as needed. —Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey, i have one issue with your jf Google Photos plugin (which helps me to export to GG photos). It doesn’t work and show up as normal. This short dialog box appeared: For each of the 6 selected images, then choose to clear the “uploaded to GG photos” flag, destroying any upload history. I clicked on dismiss dialog but then the option box to export still doesn’t pop up. I tried multiple times and reinstalled the latest plugin version however the issue is still there. Any idea how to fix this?
Thank you in advance

You’re accessing the extra-stuff menu; to actually do an export, bring up the Export dialog (File > Export…) and select “Google Photos” at the “Export To” dropdown near the top. —Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey, uploads jfZenfolio from Lightroom Classic running on Windows 10 are failing with this message: “Networking error when attempting http://upzenfolio.com/twpattphoto/p56…” The connection with the server was terminated abnormally.

The messages started 3-4 days ago. I have been using the jfZenfolio plugin for a long time and only now has this started. Visiting with Zenfolio help resulted in them pointing back to the plugin developer. I am hoping that this is some sort of a generic issue with the plugin that you can address. I updated to the newest versions of the plugin and Lightroom, but no joy there. An upload directly to Zenfolio through their browser page did work…

Anyway, hope that you can help.

Tom Patton, Butte Montana

I’ve pushed out a new version of the plugin that should hopefully handle this. —Jeffrey

Hello Jeffrey,
Firstly many thanks for your Export to Flickr plugin for Lightroom, that I’m using now for many years.
I would like to report two issues to you that I have with this plugin.

1st is the keywords in LrC that are assigned via face recognition: I use “Image visibility at Flickr” based on the appearance of some peoples names in the keywords. When I put “John” as a keyword manually this works fine. When LrC recognises John and sets the keyword John, then also the visibility is set correctly by the plugin, but the keyword disappears. It does not appear in the keyword field on Flickr. I don’t know if this is on purpose, but I would prefer to keep the keyword in Flickr. Is this possible ?

2nd is my use of LrC from two computers. I sync all the lightroom catalog files and folders with plugins and settings between my laptop and my desktop computer. This works fine for most data but the plugin loses some data. For example I use group pools with keyword-based group assignment but this doesn’t remain in sync between the two workplaces although the whole folder with plugins etc is synced. My question is: where are these data stored so that I can also keep this in sync.

Thanks in advance for any help on these issues. Kind regards, Jules

For the first one, do you perhaps have “Remove Person Info” enabled in the “Metadata” section of the dialog? As for the second, Lightroom stores plugin private data in either the catalog, or, in the specific case of what you’re asking about, in the preferences file. I don’t see an easy way to keep these in sync automatically, sorry. —Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey
jf Google drive works well. But surprisingly I get the following message (translated) when I start Lightroom (last update version): Lightroom has to configure your System for the jf Google Drive plug-in.
I can confirm with Ok and then opens the box Windows user configuration (will you allow that the app makes changes at your device ?) I can confirm with OK, but with the next start of Lightroom the first box (see above) pops up again.
Any hints to overcome this is appreciated. 🙂
Thank you, best regards and stay healthy !

I think the workaround you put in place to unstick a stuck “publish” has an unintended side affect. If I click Publish, the plugin starts processing normally and images in the grid move from the Add or Modify sections to the Published section as normal. However, if I go to some other collection, for example the quick collecton, while the Publish is still in progress, and then go back the the publish service collection that is in progress things go wild. the grid erratically flips back and forth between the quick collection and the PS collection being published and the panels in the left panel group jump around. the later symptom may be due to the first if it keeps changing the selected source between the Quick Collection and the being published collection.

Sounds….. entertaining. (Sigh.) I’m told that the bug will be fixed in the next release of Lightroom, which hopefully will be soon. —Jeffrey
