My Camera is Exhausted

My camera is exhausted, and now that I think about it, so am I.

Today I took 3,568 photos (70 gigabytes worth) because trying to make Wigglegrams at pretty temples in Kyoto. It was both addicting and exhausting.

Now the stress moves to my laptop and Lightroom, which will certainly groan under so many new pixels....

I understand, in the last 2 weeks i shot a aircraft museum fly inn and a cowboy breakfast rodeo.
5100 images. Many of the images will be thrown away because i shoot many ways and only keep the best, high shutter speed, low shutter speed, 2nd curtain sync flash etc.
I have a very specific way to catalog my images that breaks down that large group into manageable bytes.
example for the rodeo each calf roping “run” of 5-20 images is put in its own nested folder.
This way i am only looking at a few images at a time for focus, exposure, composition.
it goes quickly and i don’t think to hard about any 1 image.
Later i go back and pick my selects to post for my clients.

Here’s a link to the rodeo images.
Note: this was just shot for my own enjoyment.

I’ve been making two-frame stereo pairs from my airplane, using a single camera in burst mode and picking two frames to be the ‘left eye’ and ‘right eye’ images. But not everyone can free-view stereo pairs, so I’m intrigued by your wigglegrams. The multi-frame animations controlled by dragging the mouse are best, I think. Have you published a “how-to” on the techniques you use? And I saw some mention of a Lightroom plug-in you were thinking of releasing: is it available?

It’s on my (rather lengthy) todo list to write up how I do this, but it’s not done yet. There’s no plugin for it at the moment, either. I did hear about an article being written about the idea, which includes some of my code and examples, so that’ll go a long way to letting others create them. I’ll post a link here once the article is live. —Jeffrey
