"Orange juice in an adult glass" is a beautiful portrait. It is spot on technically and has a wonderful luminosity. The catch lights in the eyes are perfect.

Thanks for your kind words, but technically the focus is way off.... a few cm in front of the near eye, where it should be. I'm always having focus issues... I need to tighten up that ship. Luckily, this is not a photo blog, so I feel free to put technically-poor shots like this up, because they help tell the story I want to share. The world deserves to see my kid. :-) —Jeffrey

"Most, MOST excellent photo. That made me laugh out loud in absolute delight when I saw it. Fumie & Shogo’s father’s expression makes me like him just from that photo alone."

I had to go back and look at it... _then_ I noticed Curious George hiding in the jacket, and laughed out loud! Didn't even see him before! It makes the expression on Fumie's Dad's face look perfect! ^_^

Loving these photos Jeffrey. Wanted to let you know, also, that I am about 1 week from my first DSLR, a Canon T2i (buying from my son who is upgrading to a 60D). I will start off with the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 standard zoom. Hopefully will add a faster prime later on. If I am able to produce a fraction of the quality you have shown on your blog, I will be happy. Thanks for all the inspiration!

The out-of-focus Shogo College Buddy actually has an incredibly sharp, in-focus right hand!

What setting were you using for the AF? Center-select? Can you tell from the EXIF where did the camera thinks it focused?

Or maybe you were hand-focusing, in which case the above sentence is irrelevant...

EZ

Sorry for not being clear... it was in manual-focus mode. —Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey!

Good to see you are enjoying photography! So, now that you have tried both the old and the new 85/1.4, do you see any significant difference in practical use?

Regards,
Edgar.

About the only thing I noticed so far is that it's easier to switch back and forth between MF and AF with the new one. —Jeffrey

Having enjoyed our son's wedding a couple of weeks ago, it is fascinating to see these, and you have made a wonderful informal record for the whole family to enjoy (as well as us outsiders). And I'm very pleased you didn't use flash, the atmosphere is conveyed so well in these photographs. Thanks for sharing the occasion !
