To Bryce Lee: black blackboard paint does exist, we do have some blackboards that are really black in schools and universities here in Hungary, though dark green is more common.

Very cute..my son too uses a whiteboard for conveying such cute notes to us!

Reading John's note above clarifies something for me. I ordered "Book of brownies" by Enid Blyton over Amazon and it came from UK. It is used and not in best of shape. It costs $15 and I thought here in US no one will charge more than $5 for the book in this condition. My son read it in one go so it is worth it and I am very attached to this book since I read it as a kid.

Your son is shrewd especially if he keeps his new toy in pristine condition. Here in England toys in excellent condition from fifty years ago in original boxes sell at auction for ridiculously high prices. Collectors seem to have a strange sentimental attachment for items from their childhood. I hope that you respect his wishes and keep that box.

Hahahah, any toy of his is far from "pristine" within 50 seconds. He wants to keep the box, despite being half destroyed because it interfered with his initial access to the toy, because it has cool pictures on it. —Jeffrey

My sympathies are with Bryce..not only for having to decide about the blackboard, but with all the other decisions he'll be making for his move.
Downsizing is HARD! We are also facing that here in the next few years . And he's lived in his home even longer than the 44 years we've been in ours.. In that time one collects more than memories.
I am particularly thankful that Bryce, and everyone else that does, posts where he lives. That makes it even more interesting. Thanks, Bryce, and lots of luck with upcoming hard decisions.

How times have changed!
I am in the process of selling my large home which I have occupied since 1948 when I arrived here the first week of May 1948. Our family has always had a large black board, manufactured from a large piece of wood liberally painted with three or for layers of chalk board paint. "Black" board paint doesn't exist,
something about the word "black" perhaps?
So in moving to a two bedroom flat, am trying to decide if the two foot by three foot chalk board moves with me or is
it to be scrapped. A white board to me is not of my liking, yet suspect it is far more practical! And modern!

Bryce Lee, Burlington Ontario Canada

Sounds like a treasure to me; I'd treat it as such! —Jeffrey
