I'm guessing that the CDs were to scare off crows or cats... I've seen them used for that before. Not sure why either would bother a bamboo grove, so maybe I'm off base.

Perhaps the CDs were to alert humans to the near-invisible barbed wire?

I find these groves of giant bamboos fascinating and beautiful, and very photogenic, whether close-up or from across a valley. It is a shame they are not hardy enough for cool-temperate climates like the UK’s (for those with large gardens!).

Nah! Everyone knows it’s to discourage pandas, who are notorius for eating large amounts of bamboo.

Ha! Of course! Those CDs and barbed wire MUST be there to scare off those hordes of Wild Japanese Pandas. Everyone knows what a nuisance those Japandas are!

I think it’s a good guess that the CDs are there to alert humans from walking into the wire.
