Paying Attention
to the wrong thing

Anthony is still doing “Jumping”, the preschool gymnastics that I described two years ago. I brought my camera again today for the first time since then...

Some of the kids are ridiculously flexible. Check out the girl in the upper-right corner above...

One of the things they did was a hoop chase. The instructor stands in the corner of the room (upper-right, in the doorway in the pic below) and whips a hoop underhanded to put a heavy reverse spin on it. Momentum carries it into the empty room until reverse spin starts to take hold and it slows down, stops, and then rockets back toward him. He throws five, each about two or three seconds apart, and each in a different direction. The kid has to run back and forth to collect them all before a hoop falls over. It's quite fun.

Another fun thing they did involved one kid who was “it” and had to try to get the others “out” by hitting them with a ball. The last kid remaining was the winner, who got “interviewed” by the instructor, much like a sports celebrity gets interviewed right after a game. It's silly and fun.

Last Moment
of being “in”

For a short while, the setting sun came streaming in the windows, reflecting off the shiny floor and washed the “out” kids in a beautiful, shimmery light as they enjoyed watching the rest of the game...
