A lot of items are nearly up 40% in price (in the past two years) and rising due to the coming Olympics in 2010 (Olympic Fever). In addition to that the city has just survived two huge strikes that did send taxes up. (Public Workers, Library Strikes) However just like any city, you have to know where to go, if you could have I would have sent you down commercial drive...a smaller yet just as ecentric part of the city with more livable prices, and some great photo opportunities. It shows a lot of the character you can't find downtown. I lived there twice for six months at a time and whenever I ventured out to Robson/Granville Downtown District every spent dollar made me grimace a little. Vancouver *is* an expensive city, but unfortunately this is more recent than not. I didn't know that the wonderful 17-55 had such optical distortion, but the most important is the perfectly clean shot. It is a Fairmont hotel, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairmont_Hotel_Vancouver" rel="nofollow">Fairmont Vancouver Hotel</a>, in fact. I love Vancouver. It's a beautiful city.
