Pleasant Day at the Imperial Palace

Yesterday afternoon, prior to the Pleasant Day Along the Kamo River, I had to kill an hour with Anthony near his school. We decided to go with a classmate, Mizuki-chan, across the street to the grounds of Kyoto's old imperial palace...

At one point they played a game similar to what American kids might do with a turkey wishbone. Pine needles tend to fall in pairs, so they found old dried ones on the ground, hooked the two together, then pulled. The holder of the pair that doesn't break wins.

Once the hour was up, they went to their gymnastics, and I took the camera over to the Kamo river, as seen in yesterday's post

Comments so far....

You know, I don’t think these kids NEED a gymnastics class – unless maybe they were teaching the stretching part of it. I mean, in the “Must Inspect Rocks” photo, Mizuki-chan has the most amazing, flexible balancing stance. Sort of a one legged squat with one leg as an outrigger for balance. I can surely understand why she didn’t want to sit directly on the rocks (at first, anyway). But if *I* tried to do that, I’d rupture something and end up on Advil for the next month and a half.
