Ahh, ok, that makes sense. It's really not the text editor but a terminal program that you aren't happy with.

On a separate note - have you seen my comment regarding the Tamron 17-50 vs Nikon 17-55 lenses? I may have either not posted it correctly or missed your reply. (would have emailed you about it but only found this forum as a way of contacting you).

Thanks, Vic

Hey there,
I like your blog as I'm also into computers and photography (but no kids of my own)

Question - why is writing a blog on PC painful? It seems it's such a basic activity - how is a word processor different between ANY computers? For what it's worth I can't stand Macs (or anything Apple does software-wise as I learned after dealing with Itunes) but I don't think I would mind writing a blog on a Mac.

I've been using Unix since 1981, and I feel comfortable in its "don't get in the user's way" attitude. Windows, on the other hand, dumbs down the UI in ways that creates limitations for the technically-proficient user, such as a relative lack of keyboard shortcuts. I much prefer to use the keyboard over the mouse when editing text, and when I can, I will be faster and more efficient than any mouse-bound user.

More specific to the case at hand, I write my blog on a server located 5,000 miles away, so when I'm at home, I'm merely connecting via a terminal window. I've yet to find a terminal program for Windows that allows me to use all the keyboard sequences I'm used to. At this point, I figure that Windows simply doesn't support them. Hence, I'm hobbled even when just passing through. —Jeffrey
