In Part One about the Sports Day at Anthony's Preschool, I covered events one through five. This post picks up with Event #6.

Event #6: That's The Way To Do It, Team Purple
それいけ むらさきぐみ

This was the “obstacle course” for the oldest kids, whose name badges are purple, and hence they're known as the purple class (although as I explained in the previous post, the oldest kids wore either purple or orange shirts for the event).

It started with a short run to a set of hoops that they have to step/jump over....

... then a short run to a tarp that they have to run under....

... and then they have to put their feet into boxes and run/walk/shuffle to the finish line.

Event #7: “Little Tike, Go For It
ちびちゃん、 がんばれ

The next event was for the little brothers and sisters of the students. Mommies and Daddies would bring the kids, aged 0 through 3, to the start and they'd run or walk a short distance to some teachers and pick out a prize.

The little girl in the center above, May, was featured in my blog six months ago as an amazing two-year old using chopsticks. That's her mommy clapping at left, with white hat. May's big sister, Monet, is in Anthony's class.

It was also a nice chance to include the daddies. The event was specifically held on a Saturday to give more daddies a chance to attend.

The little boy in the center above walks away with his daddy, holding the prize he just received. His big brother is also in Anthony's class.

Event #8: Buddy Race
なかよしきょうそう

The next event combined both the younger and middle classes. The middle-class kids (wearing red or blue shirts) helped the younger-class kids (green or yellow shirts) to put a hoop around themselves then they ran together to the finish line.

In the first shot below, I like how they start out holding hands, with the older kid at left pointing the way.

Event #9: Elementary Kids Footrace
小学生かけっこ

The next event was for the older siblings of the students, a race for any elementary-school kids in attendance. By this time, I was really suffering from dead battery syndrome and trying to figure out what to do, so I didn't get many pictures.

Event #10: “And'a 1, 2!”
ひとつに1•2!

The next event was a dance/performance by the oldest class, using flags. It was very colorful.

Event #11: Fight! Fight!
ふぁいと ふぁいと

(“Fight” in the sense of “don't give up.”)

The next event was a ball-toss for the middle class, the kids with a blue shirt vs. kids with a red shirt.

Ball Toss (Blue Team)

They had a minute or so to throw as many cloth balls into a basket. Then, everyone counts out loud as a teacher removes the balls from the baskets one by one, looking to see which team won.

Blue-Team Celebration

This was one of the few times all day where there was a specific “winner.” Most of the events were just fun with no winning or losing.

After the winner was announced, there was a secondary competition to see which team could clean up the balls in their area first. The red team won that, upon which much celebration ensued on their side.

The next post continues with Event #12.
