Broke down and purchased the Katz Eye. Wanted to wait until my warrantee expired. The push came when the autofocus on my 50mm f1.4 (circa 1991) died. I have bookmarked this link and will refer to it during the installation process. Thanks again.

Wonderful little explanation of the install process!

I have noticed mine is out of alignment at the moment, but that is the least of my worries after finally getting it secured in place!

This page should be the NUMBER ONE search result on search engines because it is the most simple to follow, and most helpful for successful installation.

Thanks,

Thanks for the detailed post on Katz eye split screen. Do you think this scren would help with gettinf focus when using a DSLR at Prime Focus on a C5 (SCT) scope. Focussing in bright daylight is fine but just a little less light makes it very difficult indeed.
Thanks agin and the pics are great.

Thanks for the tips. I've been wanting to buy the Katz for my D300 and your write-up has given me the courage to take the plunge.

Hi Jeffrey,

I really enjoy your camera and Lightroom posts. Like you, my first SLR had a split circle focusing screen (Nikon FE Manual). I hadn't done SLR photography in quite a few years... finally decided film and prints were too much trouble... and so upon picking up my D80 a year ago I was surprised to see that the split circle had gone the way of the samurai. Trouble is, like you say, it's very hard to focus manually with the new wave of SLRs. It also doesn't help that lenses have gotten smaller and focusing rings take a back seat to VR switches and the like. Of course, with the quality of autofocus and things like VR these days, I guess we really can't complain. Congrats on your Katz Eye and it seems like it was a fun project for you.
