Unplugged: Anthony’s Acoustic Guitar

Eric Clapton?

Last summer, we got a cheap toy guitar for Anthony. Not long before he turned four last fall, he gave us an impromptu acoustic concert.

Just look at that fingering — this kid really knows his stuff!

He's comfortable having the big stage all to himself

Of course, not even Eric Clapton could make music with this piece-of-crap plastic thing with wet spaghetti for strings. Whatever noise Anthony was making with it could be construed as “music” only in the most generous rose-colored light that only a parent sees in... a drunk, deaf parent, that is.

Nevertheless, it was extremely enjoyable to watch.

He used one of those plastic things that keeps a bread bag closed for the pick.

As far as I know, he's never seen someone playing a guitar (except for Fumie and me playing with his toy), so I don't know where he picked up the proper look. But he's certainly got that down... he looks like a true pro.

I so enjoyed all the photos. Especially buying, unwrapping and playing with the gomi truck. What a beautiful child. Seemed at home with the guitar too, or was it a ukulele? Loved them all.

Guitar…. ukulele… what’s the difference? 🙂

We actually got a real ukulele for him so that he understands that an instrument can actually be capable of making nice sounds, which may spark more of an interest in music. We haven’t given it to him yet, though….

More than 5 and a half years later: meanwhile have you given the ukulele to him? 🙂
