360-degree Panoramic Photography

Today, I ran across an interesting photo site of

360-degree panoramas such as the one above. Most of the pictures seem to have been taken in Japan.

View the main page to see a calendar across the top; click on a date to see a picture. In particular, look carefully at the Dec 11th photo to see the camera attachment used. You can see the photographer himself in a number of shots, including the Feb 16th image.

I think it's pretty cool stuff. It reminds me a bit of Scott Haefner's aerial 360 panoramas (check out an old castle -- you can move and zoom interactively) that he takes with a camera slung from a kite. His Kite Aerial Photography site is excellent.

Looks like the photographer is actually taking the photograph of the convex mirror above him… very neat.
