Today, I ran across an interesting photo site of 360-degree panoramas such as the one above. Most of the pictures seem to have been taken in Japan.
View the main page to see a calendar across the top; click on a date to see a picture. In particular, look carefully at the Dec 11th photo to see the camera attachment used. You can see the photographer himself in a number of shots, including the Feb 16th image.
I think it's pretty cool stuff. It reminds me a bit of Scott Haefner's aerial 360 panoramas (check out an old castle -- you can move and zoom interactively) that he takes with a camera slung from a kite. His Kite Aerial Photography site is excellent.
Looks like the photographer is actually taking the photograph of the convex mirror above him… very neat.
Btw, congrats on getting the machine back up!
